Gingerbread Houses Gingerbread houses have been a tradition at le Gateau for twenty years. For Sue and her staff it is not just a house but it has to tell a story. It could be children peeking into the window of a toy shop or penguins and polar bears building an igloo. Hundreds of hours are spent working on these buildings. In 2006 Sue won second place at the National Gingerbread contest at the Grove Park Inn at Asheville, North Carolina. The building was a conservatory with sugar see-through windows of Santa inside giving out toys. An ice carving contest was also made with pulled sugar.
